The St. Oswald Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church building near Hörlbach , a district of the Middle Franconian town of Ellingen in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district .

The church stands about 300 m outside the village at an altitude of 411 m above sea level, near the Hörleinsgraben on the road to Massenbach . It forms a branch church of the Christ Church in Ellingen.

It was first mentioned in a document on June 9, 1255, and in 1537 it became Protestant . At first the church belonged to the Wülzburg monastery , from 1538 to 1929 Hörlbach belonged to the church of Höttingen , from 1929 to 1942 to the city of Weißenburg in Bavaria . Hörlbach has been a subsidiary church of the parish of Ellingen since 1942. The church with cemetery and cemetery wall is a listed building .

The building forms a Gothic choir tower church , the 14th century church tower of which is crowned by a pointed helmet from the 18th century. In 1711 the nave was rebuilt . The sacristy was built in 1835. In 1913 the church was enlarged on the north side. Early Gothic frescoes were discovered in the choir , which were preserved in 1921. The altar is from 1711 and shows the Lord's Supper . The church was renovated between 1967 and 1983.

In 1993 there was a chemical accident in the church . The building was contaminated and no longer accessible. The frescoes, the altar and the pulpit were at risk, and the Vasa Sacra and organ were irretrievably destroyed. The church was renovated with large grants under the direction of the Ansbach Building Department . The re-inauguration took place in 2000. The destroyed organ was replaced in 2001 by a new one.
