The Church of St. Pankratius is the Roman Catholic parish church in the Rurdorf district of the city of Linnich in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

A church in Rurdorf is mentioned for the first time in 1533. It was built in the 15th century. This church probably already had a previous building. At that time, Rurdorf was a branch of the Linnich parish . In 1719 Rurdorf became an independent parish . However, around 1801, Rurdorf became a branch again, but this time from Welz . It was not until 1835 that Rurdorf finally became an independent parish. The old Gothic church had to be demolished around 1850 because it was no longer stable. So from 1850 to 1852 a new church was built as a neo-Gothic hall church with a three-sided choir in the east and a bell tower in the west. In the Second World War, this church was heavily damaged. All the vaults collapsed and the tower was completely destroyed. In 1949 the church was restored under the direction of the Linnich architect Werner Finkeldei .

Furnishing

In the church there is a wooden pulpit , probably from around 1850, some figures of saints have also been preserved from the same period. The rest of the equipment is modern. Ludwig Schaffrath created the windows between 1966 and 1969.
