Evangelical Church in Linnich

The Evangelical Church in Linnich , a town in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ), was built from 1800 to 1805. It is a protected architectural monument .

history

The Reformed in Linnich probably owned a church very early, as its destruction is reported in 1626. It was probably the Rother Lew house on the church square. In 1662 the Reformed congregation was donated the Altermarkt property and built a church on it. In 1717 the foundation stone was laid for a new church building, which also burned down when the city was destroyed by Austrian troops in 1794. The current church was built between 1800 and 1805.

architecture

The brick- built hall church , simply designed according to Reformed thinking, fits into the ensemble of the square. The portal and the windows are bordered with house stones. The roof has a broken Krüppelwalmform and is powered by a roof turret crowned in elongated dome shape with pointed hood.

Altar and pulpit

Furnishing

The pulpit , the choir stalls and the organ are carved from dark oak and richly decorated with ornaments. These baroque furnishings come from the Hohenbusch Kreuzherrenkloster near Erkelenz , which was secularized in 1802 . In 1805 the equipment was donated by the Aachen bishop to the Reformed community in Linnich. After the destruction in World War II , the church was restored to its original shape.

Church window

Displaced persons window

When the lead glass windows were renewed, the expellees who moved to the homeland were given a window to commemorate their fate. Other windows, which were also made by the glass painting company Oidtmann in Linnich, symbolically represent baptism and the Lord's Supper (choir window).

organ

The organ , like the rest of the church equipment, comes from the Hohenbusch Kreuzherrenkloster. It was created in 1764 by a Rhenish master. The organ with the richly carved rococo- style case is the oldest organ in the Düren district. It was fitted with new pipes in 1955 by the Steinmeyer organ builder from Oettingen based on the old templates.
