Holy Moorish Martyrs in Gevenich

The Church of St. Moorish Martyrs is the Roman Catholic parish church in the Gevenich district of the city of Linnich in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

A first church in Gevenich is mentioned in the 14th century. No further information is known about this church. At the end of the 18th century, a new hall church with a three-sided closed choir and a bell tower was built. This was elevated to a parish church in 1804. During the Second World War , this church was destroyed except for the surrounding walls. In 1951 the church was restored.

Furnishing

In contrast to the church building, parts of the furnishings are entered under number 28 in the list of architectural monuments of the community of Linnich. These include the baroque organ front , the figures of saints, the wooden crucifix in the choir from the 14th century and bluestone epitaphs behind the church. The windows of the church were made by Paul Weigmann in 1967 and 1990 and the Holy Spirit window was created by Ernst Jansen-Winkeln in 1949.
