The Alt St. Peter church is the old Roman Catholic parish church in the Körrenzig district of the city of Linnich in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

A church in Körrenzig is mentioned for the first time in 1029. It came from the 10th century and was a hall church. A north aisle was added in the 11th century, and a rectangular choir was added to the church in the 12th century. Parts of the west wall of this Romanesque church are still preserved today. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the old church was replaced by a three-aisled Gothic hall church with a three-sided choir , although some remains of the wall from the previous building were included. A sacristy was added to the church in the 17th century . Parts of the church were renovated in the 18th century . After the new church was built in 1962, the church was only used as a mourning hall . This use ended in 1990. Thus the building had become inoperable. Furthermore, the condition of the building deteriorated due to the lowering of the groundwater in the lignite opencast mines, so that the stability was ultimately endangered. In 2000 the church was finally completely renovated and thus saved from deterioration. The church is now used for cultural events.

Furnishing

In the church there are windows by the artist Hubert Spierling from 2005.
