Franz Joseph Soll

Franz Joseph Soll (also Franz Josef Soll , Joseph Soll ; * 1734 probably in Fridingen an der Donau ; † February 9, 1798 in Trostberg ) was a rococo church painter who was mainly active in southeastern Upper Bavaria around Trostberg and Traunstein . He was one of the Trostberg Rococo artists.

life and work

He is said to have worked as a journeyman in Munich around 1750. Around 1758, together with the sculptor Joseph Benedikt Kapfer and the builder Franz Alois Mayr, he was involved in the painting of the churches of Margarethenberg (municipality of Burgkirchen an der Alz ) and later the monastery church of Raitenhaslach . Soll lived in Trostberg-Schedling from 1761. After working in Gstaig ( Feldkirchen bei Mattighofen , Upper Austria ) northeast of Michaelbeuern ( Salzburg State ), he was involved in the design of the monastery church of Baumburg Monastery . Subsequently, he was involved in the decoration of the churches of Alzgern (city of Neuötting ), Deinting (city of Trostberg), Feichten an der Alz , Hart (municipality of Chieming ), Kirchweidach , Lauterbach (municipality of Nußdorf am Haunsberg , State of Salzburg), Marienberg , Neufahrn (Municipality of Mettenheim ), Niedergottsau (municipality of Haiming ), Sankt Johann (city of Neuötting), Schedling (city of Trostberg), Schnaitsee , Berg (municipality of Schnaitsee) and Siegsdorf as well as the former castle chapels in Wald an der Alz (municipality of Garching an der Alz ) and Schedling active. He also painted the parish church and the cemetery chapel of Tacherting . He died in February 1798.

Soll was married to the barrel painter Maria Soll, with whom he depicted himself on the fresco above the left side altar in the church of Kirchweidach .

Soll's sons Johann Nepomuk and Ignaz († 1841) also worked as painters.

  • Lauterbach (Land Salzburg), Filialkirche Vierzehn Nothelfer, ceiling painting, inscribed 1767: four church fathers, coat of arms of Abbots Pichler and Moser von Michaelbeuren, in the dome the 50 Israelite heroes are received by King David, opposite view of the Michaelbeuren monastery. Left cross arm: scene with St. Barbara, in the right cross arm probably St. Aegidius, in the apse the lamb and the book with the seven seals.
  • Filial church St. Rupertus in Neufahrn, large ceiling painting (1772): Bavaria entrusts itself to St. Rupertus.
