The Church of St. Peter is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Zweibrücken district of Ixheim . The church building dedicated to St. Peter is listed in the register of cultural monuments of the independent city of Zweibrücken.
The parish
In addition to the Catholics from Ixheim, the parish of St. Peter also includes those from the two districts of Rimschweiler and Mittelbach-Hengstbach . There are around 2000 parishioners.
The church building
The church building in Ixheimer Kirchbergstrasse was built between 1930 and 1933 according to plans by the architect Albert Boßlet ( Würzburg ) in the Expressionist style. It is a three-aisled sandstone block building . A rectory also belongs to the entire church .
Due to damage caused by the ingress of water, the tower of the church was restored in 2010 . Rotten beams were replaced, damaged sandstones replaced, joints repaired and the edge channels renewed. The tower cross was also renewed. On the tower roof, the artificial slates were replaced by real slates . After completion of the restoration work, the cost of which amounted to 125,000 euros, the Nature Conservation Union built a nesting box for kestrels and owls . There is also space for bats in the tower .
