The Roman Catholic branch church of St. Salvator on the Schlossberg in Störnstein has belonged to the parish of Neustadt an der Waldnaab since 1940 . Before that, Störnstein belonged to the Püchersreuth parish .

history

On April 16, 1933, the demolition of the too small St. Katharinen Church began. The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation had previously given instructions that the right side altar with five late Gothic half-reliefs ( St. Barbara , St. Katharina , St. Ursula , St. Dorothea , St. Appollonia ) and the crucifixion group with the assistant figures should be removed from the old church Maria and Johannes, a figure of Mary with Jesus and dragons (today left side altar), another figure of Mary, a wooden figure Anna selbdritt (today left in the presbytery ), the Mariahilf picture from 1634 on the left side altar, the high altar picture St. Salvator (today in the presbytery left) as well as the old way of the cross by Thaddäus Rabusky from 1828 and the chair cheeks with rococo carvings for the new church had to be secured (these no longer exist today). At the same time it was desired that the neo-Gothic superstructures of the side altars should not be transferred to the new church.

The church was planned by the Regensburg architect Wirthensohn and built under the direction of the master builder Mathes with a lot of manual and tensioning services of the population. The new church was inaugurated on October 20, 1934, the church consecration day, by Pastor Wilhelm Hecht and in the following year on May 19, 1935, the church was consecrated by Bishop Michael Buchberger and decorated with relics of St. Aurelius and St. Justinian fitted.

The church was built from granite blocks. It is 26 m long, with 6 m on the presbytery. The nave is 7.5 m high and the presbytery is 10 m high. The church has a coffered ceiling. There are five arched windows on each side. A gallery for a choir is drawn a few meters into the church. A three meter long porch contains the baptistery, which is adorned with two glass paintings ( Baptism of Christ and Resurrection of Jesus Christ ). The sacristy is attached to the church as a plastered brick building.

Interior

The painting in the choir was done by the Weiden painter Wilhelm Vierling . In the middle is the picture of Salvator Mundi, this depiction of St. Salvator originally comes from the abandoned church of St. Salvator on the harbor deck . The surrounding painting opens the view into the glory of God, to see is the Most Holy Trinity , surrounded by angels and saints, on the left a depiction of purgatory and the suffering church , on the right the priest under whom the church was built, Pastor Wilhelm Hecht, im Circle of believers as a symbol of the warring church. In the chancel on the left is the picture of Salvator with Anna stepping herself and Maria with the child.

The left side altar is the altar of Mary, above is a dove as a symbol of the Holy Spirit and God the Father . The right altar is the Catherine altar with the five late Gothic wing relief figures already mentioned. The figures of Joseph as well as Peter and Paul are placed above the sacristy door.

Left and right on the side walls are frescoes depicting the ancient liturgy of the sacrifice of the mass . On the gallery wall the Twelve Apostles and in the middle again the Salvator Mundi are depicted. The Mariahilf picture is under the gallery. The depiction of the heart of Jesus comes from the Wendelstein church .

In 1982 a people's altar and ambo were installed in the church.

Bells

The bells were carried over from the demolished Katharinenkapelle. In 1934 another bell was added, donated by Joseph, Georg and Thomas Mühlhofer from Neustadt an der Waldnaab with the inscription Sancta Maria - ora pro nobis . They were tuned to f sharp, g sharp and b. The weight was 13, 9 and 6 quintals. These had to be delivered in 1942 during World War II , with the exception of the “Sancta Maria” bell.

On November 4, 1949, Pastor Georg Wittmann was able to inaugurate three new bells, which had been cast again by the bell foundry in Hamm in Regensburg. These are the bells “Salvator Mundi - Miserere nobis” (650 kg; donated by the parish), “St. Brother Konrad - please for us ”(450 kg; donated by Albert and Georg Rothfischer, Maschinenfabrik) and“ Beate Joseph - Ora pro nobis ”(300 kg; donated by the parish). In 1964 an electric bell could be installed.

Other buildings

The parish of Störnstein also has its own cemetery . Until 1894 the deceased were buried in the cemetery of Püchersreut, from January 15, 1895 the new cemetery of the Expositur Störnstein was opened. The cemetery was expanded and renovated between 1972 and 1983. The deceased were kept in their own house until their burial until 1975, since then they have been taken to the morgue in Neustadt an der Waldnaab.

Although only one branch is set up here , Störnstein also has its own rectory . In 1924/25 the community of Störnstein acquired a plot of land and built a parsonage on it. The diocese of Regensburg contributed financially, and the parishioners also helped with robotic services and oat and grain collections. In 1926 Andrea Kopp was the first pastor to move in. In 1927 he was followed by the clergyman Wilhelm Hecht, who also retired in Störnstein after his retirement († 1941). In 1941 the clergyman Konrad Krapf was transferred from Winklarn to Störnstein, but had to retire in 1946 due to a war wound. In the same year he was succeeded by Georg Wittmann, a refugee chaplain from the Budweis diocese . In 1954 he was replaced by Expositus Franz Skrzeczk of the parish of Sulzbach. Since September 1st, 2000 the pastor BGR Josef Häring has been the leader of the parish community.
