St. Stephanus (Gönnersdorf near Bad Breisig)

The Catholic parish church of St. Stephanus in Gönnersdorf , a local parish in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate ( Germany ), was originally built at the end of the 13th century. The church at Hauptstraße 16a is a protected architectural monument .
history
The church structure of the 13th century was changed in the 18th century. The tufa vault of the choir was demolished and replaced by a wooden vault . At this time the nave was also rebuilt and the tower renovated. A sacristy was added to the east of the choir around 1830.
description
The plastered quarry stone building has a square west tower, a two-axis nave and a retracted choir closed on three sides. The four-story tower is covered by a tent roof. The upper floor has ogival double openings with intermediate pillars framed by blind arches on each side .
Furnishing
The southern side altar is a memorial altar of the brothers Johann Reinhard von Metternich († 1637) and Wilhelm von Metternich (see Metternich ) from 1630. In the niche, framed by two marble columns on angel figures, a Vespers picture made of white marble can be seen. There is an Annunciation group above the segment-shaped entablature , in between there is a round medallion with God the Father . The text on the inscription plaque below reads:
