St. Urban, Ottmarsbocholt

The Catholic parish church of St. Urban is a listed church building in Ottmarsbocholt , a district of Senden in the Coesfeld district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The church was first mentioned in 1188 in the Count of Dale's list of properties as curia Oetemarsesbucholte . The parish patron is the holy Pope Urban I. About the first church building is just as little known as about any other predecessor buildings to the Gothic church, which was demolished in favor of the current one. The first or a later church was founded on a foundation of boulders. The three-storey tower made of ashlar is marked 1481. He is provided with a high, pointed helmet . In 1481 a single-nave Gothic church was built from Baumberger sandstone , it is the predecessor of today's three - nave neo - Gothic hall church , built from 1887 to 1889 . The pillars of the new church stand on the foundations of the outer walls of the old church. The church, a light-flooded sacred space, was built using bricks and stone according to plans by the Münster architect August Hanemann .

The church contains a modern altar cross with a small crucifix from the end of the 14th century.

organ

The organ was built in 1888 by the organ builder Friedrich Fleiter (Münster) in a neo-Gothic case, using pipe material from the previous organ from 1764. The instrument has 22 registers on two manuals and a pedal. The playing and stop actions are mechanical. What is striking is the similarity of the disposition with other Fleiter organs from this period, for example with the organ of the St. Mauritz Church in Münster.
