The Staande Mastroute (route with a standing mast ) is a shipping route for the passage of sailing boats with a standing mast through the Netherlands .

The Staande Mastroute consists of a northern and a southern part. The northern part leads from Delfzijl on the Ems via Groningen and Leeuwarden to Lemmer on the IJsselmeer .

The southern part leads from Willemstad , Dordrecht , Gouda , Amsterdam into the Markermeer . The opening times of the bridges from Gouda and the Schiphol-Basculebrug over the A9 are of particular importance for planning the trip, as both are opened a maximum of 3 times a day. It should also be taken into account that on the Noord, the Dordtsche Kil , the Alte Maas and on the Hollandse IJssel , tidal currents of 2 to 3 knots can be expected.

The headroom is only limited by a few high-voltage overhead lines over the canals. The lowest overhead line allows ships with a height of 29.5 meters to pass through. A total of 40 movable bridges lead over the route. Otherwise, the ships or boats may have a maximum draft of 2.5 meters, a width of 7.5 meters and a length of 70 meters.

costs

Driving on the Staande Mastroute is free, but you have to pay a bridge fee for opening some bridges. The total bridge fee for all chargeable bridges in the northern part is 13 euros . Payment is made in cash when crossing the bridges. The bridge keeper lets a small wooden shoe on a fishing rod down to the boat, into which the money is put. On the paid bridges it is posted how much bridge fees are to be paid.

If you drive from Zeeland to the IJsselmeer, the entire passage is free. The night journey through Amsterdam has also been free since the beginning of 2010.

Accommodation information

For the night trip through Amsterdam, the meeting point is the pier in front of the Nieuwe Meersluis when coming from the south. It takes around 1 hour from the Schiphol-Basculebrug motorway bridge to the pier, so that there is still enough time to get some sleep. After passing through there are two options for staying overnight. You can moor in front of the Westerkeersluis on both sides of the canal until 10 a.m. - watch out for trees! - or continue straight to Sixhaven, which is opposite Amsterdam Central Station . Since the Six Harbor can be quite full, especially in the season, and Het IJ is still very busy with commercial shipping at night, the alternative in front of Westerkeersluis is recommended.
