The city traffic Hildesheim GmbH & Co. KG (SVHI) is a 100 percent subsidiary of Stadtwerke Hildesheim (SWHI) and operates the city bus service in the cathedral city of Hildesheim with several day, evening and call-taxi (AST) lines.

history

On January 30, 1867, a horse-drawn bus operated by a private freight forwarder began operations as the first inner-city means of transport in Hildesheim; the line ran every 60 minutes from the train station to Moritzberg . On May 15, 1886, another line to the forest spring was opened.

From 1899 on, the Hanover tram (renamed Überlandwerke und Straßenbahnen Hannover AG - ÜSTRA in 1921) connected Hildesheim to Hanover via Sarstedt with a standard-gauge overland line . The end point in Hildesheim was the station forecourt, and there was also a freight station and its own depot nearby. In 1903, the city council of Hildesheim decided to set up its own tram network for the development of the city. In 1905 the Hildesheim city tram finally started operations, and its line network continued to grow over the years.

Due to the severe destruction of the Second World War, the urban tram operation had to be stopped in 1945, the operation of the üstra line 11 ended in 1958. From then on, public transport in Hildesheim was carried out exclusively with buses from Stadtwerke Hildesheim ; from 1943 to 1969 two lines were operated as trolleybuses . In 1998, Stadtverkehr Hildesheim (SWH, today SWHI) was taken over by the newly founded, wholly-owned subsidiary Stadtverkehr Hildesheim (SVHI).

Since December 2019, the SVHI has been part of the ROSA tariff association together with Regionalverkehr Hildesheim (RVHI) , the authorities in the district of Hildesheim and the city of Hildesheim, as well as the Lammetalbahn .

Stops

SVHI stop with iqube display and illuminated bus shelter

There are bus shelters at most of the stops on the main lines , and barrier - free high curbs are gradually being built at more and more stations. In the city center and at the important stops on the main lines in the city center, there are DFI indicators that show the minutes remaining until the next departure in real time. All other stops were equipped with new stop signs in 2009 and 2010. The partially outdated waiting shelters have been gradually replaced by new waiting halls with integrated ceiling lighting and illuminated timetable boxes since 2016.

Vehicle fleet

Car 151 of the SVHI

Since the last high- floor buses were retired in 2008, the SVHI has only used low-floor buses , some of which are powered by diesel and some by natural gas . In 2017, the last natural gas buses of the MAN brand were taken out of service, so that the fleet now consists exclusively of diesel buses from the Mercedes-Benz Citaro series .
