Location of Bavenstedt in Hildesheim

Bavenstedt is a district of the Lower Saxony district town of Hildesheim with around 1400 inhabitants. Together with the areas east of the A 7 that belonged to Hildesheim before it was incorporated in 1974, it forms one of the city's 14 localities .

history

Catholic Church

Due to its location in the Hildesheimer Börde with fertile black earth soils, there are early approaches to settlement in the area of today's Bavenstedt. There is evidence of a Germanic settlement from the 3rd to 5th centuries AD in today's industrial park.

Bavenstedt was first mentioned in a document around 900. In a document from 1221 it was called "Babenstedt".

The Hildesheim cloth merchant Johann Georg Lüntzel († 1838) acquired a larger farm in Bavenstedt, which was recognized in 1894 under Ernst Lüntzel as a manor of the Hildesheim knighthood.

The census of 1895 showed a population of 385. When it was incorporated into Hildesheim, which became effective on March 1, 1974, the village had 880 inhabitants. On December 31, 2008, 1,441 people lived here.

religion

The Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception of Mary at Bavenstedter Hauptstrasse 15 was built in 1888. Since 2014 it has belonged to the parish of St. Martin with its seat in Achtum , in the deanery Borsum-Sarstedt .

The Protestant Chapel of St. Martin at Wackenstedter Straße 31 was built in 1929, and its parish belongs to the Hildesheim-Sarstedt parish .

politics

The local mayor is Claudia Schröder.

Economy and Infrastructure

Due to its location in the Hildesheimer Börde, Bavenstedt has very fertile arable land with sometimes over 100 soil points . The main crops are sugar beets, wheat and barley. As a result of the structural change, the number of farms has decreased to five, two of which are full-time farms (as of 2006).

An industrial area stretches along Bavenstedter Strasse between Bavenstedt and Hildesheim ; Coca-Cola is the largest local employer. Due to the proximity of the federal motorway 7 and the federal highways 1 and 6 , the industrial area is conveniently located.
