action

In 1994 Alphie and Bibi take part in the Worldvision Song Festival . Despite their clear superiority, they are beaten by the duo Pandi and Dandi, who compete for Boogalow International Music , or BIM for short. The company boss, Mr. Boogalow, still wants to sign Alphie and Bibi. While Alphie cancels, Bibi is seized by the company's philosophy of life.

Alphie recognizes the real motives of Boogalow, who wants to control the masses with the help of music and thus achieve world domination. Alphie is able to free Bibi from the hands of the company and withdraw with her to join a rebel group.

After a while, during which Bibi had a child, Boogalow was able to find his former employee. He's asking her to pay $ 10 million in compensation. Before Boogalow can get hold of them, Alphie, Bibi and all the pure souls are saved by Mr. Topps, who takes them away in his flying Rolls-Royce.

Reviews

The lexicon of international film describes the work as "geared towards show values and fast musical numbers".

For Eric Henderson of Slant Magazine , the film is a lovably disjointed vision from director Golan.

Ken Hanke of Mountain Xpress found the film deficient in any categorization. It is certainly not good, but mesmerizing in its astonishing horror.

The TV Guide saw the film as an attempt to copy the success of The Rocky Horror Picture Show . The attempt failed miserably, however, in large part because of the astonishingly banal music.

background

The film premiered in October 1980 at the Chicago International Film Festival . From November 21, 1980 he appeared in US cinemas. It was released on video in Germany in 1982. The German version has been shortened by four minutes.

The film was shot in Berlin , among others in the International Congess Center ICC . It was the screen debut for leading actress Catherine Mary Stewart. Finola Hughes , who appeared as a dancer, also stood in front of a film camera for the first time . The film structures come from the film architect Hans-Jürgen Kiebach .
