Stefan Kaltenbrunner
Stefan Kaltenbrunner (* 1967 in Vöcklabruck in Upper Austria ) is an Austrian journalist and currently editor-in-chief of the new Austrian news channel PULS 24. He was editor-in-chief of the online portal of the Austrian daily newspaper Kurier. Before that he was editor-in-chief of the Austrian monthly magazine Datum until November 2015 . From September 2018 to July 2019 he was digital editor-in-chief of the Addendum media platform.
education
Growing up in Ampflwang in Hausruckwald , Kaltenbrunner studied after graduating from high school in Bad Ischl from 1988 to 1996 Arabic and African studies as a minor at the University of Vienna , at the Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg , in Sanaa and in Cairo . He completed his African studies in 1995 with a thesis on Fanakalo . Documentation of a pidgin language . His fellow student and friend in Vienna was Salam Pax .
Career
From 1996 to 2000 he worked as a freelance journalist for magazines and daily newspapers such as Welt am Sonntag , Format and News . He has worked for News Verlag since 2000 and since 2003, most recently in the editor-in-chief for e-Media , before he switched to the monthly magazine Datum in 2008 as deputy editor-in-chief and was responsible for the foreign affairs department "Globus". Kaltenbrunner was promoted to editor-in-chief in May 2009 and reintroduced public criticism in the Literaturhaus Wien in 2011 for the monthly magazine Datum , which was regularly visited by more than 100 people. Since October 2014 he has also been a lecturer at the FHWien der WKW at the Institute for Journalism & Media Management.
In November 2015 it was announced that he is leaving the magazine Datum and will switch to kurier.at as editor-in-chief in January 2016 . In July 2018 it was announced that he was leaving kurier.at and switching to digital media platform Addendum as editor-in-chief . In July 2019 he switched from Addendum as online editor-in-chief to Puls4 . A short time later, he was appointed editor-in-chief of the new news channel PULS 24.
Awards
Under his leadership by DATUM, the magazine has received numerous national and international awards.
As editor-in-chief, together with the publisher Klaus Stimeder, he received the special prize of the specialist journal Der Österreichische Journalist 2009 “ for the innovative niche quality product Date ”.
