Stefan Oschmann (born July 25, 1957 in Würzburg ) is a German manager and Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Merck .

Career

Oschmann studied veterinary medicine at the LMU in Munich and received his doctorate there. He began his professional activity at an agency of the United Nations , followed by a position at the Association of the Chemical Industry ( VCI ). From 1989 to 2011 he worked for the US pharmaceutical company MSD , where he held various managerial positions.

Oschmann joined Merck in 2011 as a member of the Executive Board and headed the Healthcare business sector until the end of 2014 . Afterwards, as Deputy Chairman and Deputy CEO, he was responsible for corporate strategy, among other things. At the end of April 2016 he took over the chairmanship of the executive board.

Oschmann was President of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) from 2014 to 2016. He has been President of EFPIA since June 14, 2017 .

He is married and has two children.
