The stiffness leek ( Allium strictum ), also rigid leek called, is a plant from the genus allium ( Allium ) in the subfamily of the leek plants (Allioideae).

description

The stiff leek is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 15 to 40 centimeters. The onion is very slim with a diameter of 0.5 to 0.8 centimeters and the outer shells are fibrous. The leaves are more or less flat, narrow band-shaped, a little runny on the top and 3 to 5 millimeters wide.

In doldigen inflorescence not be bulbils formed; it is enveloped by a single bract. The flower stalks are once or twice as long as the bracts. The hermaphrodite flowers are threefold. The six bracts are colored relatively light purple. The stamens are slightly above the crown. The stamens are covered with short and blunt teeth.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 48, less often 16 or 32.

Occurrence and endangerment

The stiff leek is common in Central and Eastern Europe and in Asia up to Mongolia.

It grows on rock corridors and xerothermal lawns on dry, base-rich, nutrient-poor stone and clay soils. It is regionally a character species of the Allio-stricti-Festucetum pannonicae from the association Seslerio-Festucion, but also occurs in societies of the order Festucetalia valesiacae.

In Germany, the stiff leek according to Appendix 1 of the Federal Species Protection Ordinance i. V. m. Section 44 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act (BNatSchG) is particularly protected and is listed in the Red List of Ferns and Flowering Plants in Germany as endangered.
