The Steimel is 489.7  m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Rothaargebirge . It is located near Gilsbach in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district of North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The Steimel is located in the southern part of Rothaargebirge and Siegerland directly north of Gilsbach , a district of Burbach , and about 3 km (as the crow flies ) south of Wilden , one of Wilnsdorf ; The border to the municipality of Neunkirchen runs past to the west . It belongs to the Kalteiche massif ( 579.3  m ).

To the north, the landscape of the Steimels leads over to the Bautenberg ( Baudenberg ; 512.9  m ), to the northeast to the Walkersdorfer Berg ( 526  m ), to the east past the Hahnkopf ( 476.6  m ) and over the Holzholzer Kopf ( 542.8  m) ) to Donnerhain ( 560.5  m ), to the south-south-east over the Gilsbach valley with the village of Gilsbach to Simberg ( 527.7  m ), to the south-south-west to an unnamed and around 482  m high knoll with a transmission tower and water tank and to the north-west over the valley of the Bahlenbachseifen ( Bahlenbach's Seifen ) to the western Bautenberg foothills Schelenberg ( 421.7  m ).

While the Heller tributary Gilsbach, which rises at Walkersdorfer Berg, flows south of the Steimel, the Volkersbach tributary Bahlenbachseifen rises in the area between Steimel, Walkersdorfer Berg and Bautenberg .

The Steimel belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33) in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Dill-Lahn-Eder source area (333.0) to the natural area Kalteiche (with Haincher Höhe) (333.00), where the main unit Siegerland (331) and the subunit Hellerbergland (331.3) are joined by the natural areas of Northern Hellerbergland (331.30) in the north-west and Middle Hellertal (331.31) in the south and south-west.

Mountain height

The height of the 489.7  m high Steimel is also given as only 486  m . In addition , a location about 85 m northwest of the summit with a height of 487.5  m is shown on topographic maps .

traffic

To the east past the Steimel, the state road  723 runs north-northeast of the elevation at a maximum height of 483  m as a connecting road from Gilsbach to Wilden. The mountain itself can be reached on forest trails and paths.
