Steinbach is a place in the eponymous district of Backnang in Baden-Württemberg and is located about 3 km northeast of the city center.

geography

Steinbach is located in the Backnang district at an altitude of 236 to 520 meters at the foot of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park and borders directly on the neighboring community of Auenwald . The lowest point is located at 236 m at the Murr , the highest point on a ridge of the Murrhardter forest in the tubs Floßhau and Desert Mountain m to 520th The Bodenbach, a tributary of the Murr, which is largely piped in the local area, flows through Steinbach.

history

Traces of human existence from the Neolithic period around 5000 to 7000 years ago were found at Strümpfelbach, Steinbach, Sachsenweiler and the Seehof. Even if the river name "Murr" is verifiably Celtic, so far neither residential areas nor cult facilities from this time have been found in the Backnang area. It was only with the construction of the Upper German Limes in AD 148/150 that civilian settlements emerged under the protection of military sites, the population of which was supplied by large farmsteads ("villa rustica"). Foundation walls, bricks and remains of vessels from a homestead are also said to have been found on the Steinbach (“Heidenfeld”) mark in the 19th century. However, all finds were lost at the end of the war in 1945. Steinbach was first mentioned in a document in 1368 when the Backnang Abbey acquired property here. In 1439 the place fell to Württemberg and from then on belonged to the Oberamt Backnang . The place was thus part of the Kingdom of Württemberg from 1806 to 1918 and, since 1918, of the Free People's State of Württemberg . In the course of the administrative reform in 1938, Steinbach came to the Backnang district . In 1941 the previously independent community was incorporated into Backnang. For a long time Steinbach had a now abandoned train stop on the Waiblingen – Schwäbisch Hall-Hessental railway line . The name "Bahnhofsweg" is still reminiscent of this today (the rebuilding of the stop is planned in the event of the S-Bahn extension to Sulzbach pursued by the Stuttgart Region Association).

Local development

The original village center was at the bottom of the valley. The place has undergone three major expansion steps: After an initial expansion north of the old town, another new development area followed in the 1970s on the sunny south-facing slopes and earlier vineyards. At the turn of the millennium, the village was expanded further to the west and the old Häussermannschen Hof was built in the center of the village with a new village square.

religion

Together with the neighboring village of Sachsenweiler, Steinbach forms the newly founded parish Sachsenweiler-Steinbach in 1970 with approx. 1350 members and belongs to the Protestant church district of Backnang . Before that, Steinbach was a subsidiary of the Backnang parish. The Protestant Stephanuskirche was built in the 1930s.

Steinbach belongs to the Catholic community of Christ the King's Church in Backnang.

politics

The area of 1941 incorporated municipality Steinbach is a town within the meaning of Baden-Württemberg municipal code with its own eight members existing Ortschaftsrat .
