history

Kriegers Mill in Steinbach

Steinbach was mentioned in 1428 as "Steinbach". The local manor was first mentioned in 1551. At that time, Peter von Alnpeck was named as the owner of the property. At the beginning of the 17th century it was owned by Hans von Loß, who was followed by the von Erdmannsdorff family until 1740 . The manor then went to the Danish Major General von Mörner, who later left it to his son-in-law from the von Schönberg family . Later owners were the von Miltitz family, the von Gersdorf family and, until 1860, the von Zedtwitz family . Up until 1856, Steinbach belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon District Office of Meißen . In 1856 the place was affiliated to the Wilsdruff court office and in 1875 to the Meißen administration .

On July 1, 1950, Steinbach was incorporated into the neighboring town of Neukirchen . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Steinbach came as part of the Neukirchen community on July 25, 1952, to the Freiberg district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Freiberg district of Saxony from 1990 . On March 1, 1994, the communities of Bieberstein , Dittmannsdorf , Neukirchen and Reinsberg were merged to form the new community of Reinsberg. Neukirchen and Steinbach have since formed one of five localities in the Reinsberg community. Since 2008 the place belongs to the district of central Saxony.
