history

Gotthelffriedrichsgrund has one of the longest place names in Germany (without a hyphen) and probably the longest in Saxony. The place was founded around 1670 as a miners' settlement by Gotthelf Friedrich von Schönberg (1631–1708) , the owner of Bieberstein Castle . In 1685 the settlement was named Gotthelffriedrichsgrund . A number of renaming took place over the years. The place was renamed Gotthelff Friedrichs Grund in 1719 , and in 1786 it was renamed Neudörfel, called Gotthelff-Friedrichs-Grund . In 1875 it was renamed Gotthelffriedrichsgrund (Neudörfchen near Bieberstein ) .

The manorial rule over the place was until 1856 at Bieberstein Castle. Gotthelffriedrichsgrund belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon District Office of Meißen until 1836 . From 1836 the place briefly belonged to the Freiberg district office . In 1856 Gotthelffriedrichsgrund became part of the Nossen court office and in 1875 the Meißen administration .

On October 1, 1934, it was incorporated into Burkersdorf and on July 1, 1950, the municipality of Burkersdorf and its district after Bieberstein were incorporated . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Gotthelffriedrichsgrund came as a district of Bieberstein in 1952 to the Freiberg district in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Freiberg district of Saxony from 1990 . On March 1, 1994, the community of Bieberstein with its districts Burkersdorf and Gotthelffriedrichsgrund was incorporated into Reinsberg. Since then it has been one of five localities in the municipality of Reinsberg.

In 2007 Gotthelffriedrichsgrund became an independent district again after a referendum . Gotthelffriedrichsgrund has been part of the Central Saxony district since 2008.
