Location of Steinbrück in Lower Saxony

Steinbrück is a village in the municipality of Söhlde in the Hildesheim district . It is located on the B 1 / B 444 on the Fuhse River, which runs together here . With its 110 inhabitants, Steinbrück is the least populous part of the municipality.

history

The place was on the eastern border of the Hildesheim monastery to the Duchy of Braunschweig . The stone bridge over the Fuhse was secured by a castle built after 1367.

The change of ownership that took place in 1425, together with the jurisdiction, by the Hildesheim cathedral chapter formed the basis for the Steinbrück office with market and town rights, which existed until the 19th century.

Duke Heinrich d. J. von Braunschweig was granted the area in the Quedlinburg Recess in 1523 . His son Duke Julius expanded Steinbrück Castle in 1573 . Among other things, the former mayor of Lübeck Jürgen Wullenwever was incarcerated there in the 16th century. In 1643 in the Hildesheim main recession, Steinbrück came back to the Hildesheim monastery, so the population remained Roman Catholic. The castle still exists today as a ruin of the former moated castle .

For a long time the place remained the location of a water mill at the Fuhsebrücke, which is now used as a residential building.

The Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of Mary was built in 1786, and since September 1, 2008 it has belonged to the parish of St. Bernward in Groß Ilsede . After the Second World War, many Protestant refugees from the east and resettlers from the Salzgitter area found a new home in the village. Therefore, in the 1950s, the remains of the Kehrwiederturm, a former gun tower of Steinbrück Castle, were expanded into an Evangelical Lutheran church. This was consecrated on the 3rd Advent in 1956 by Bishop Johannes Lilje and was named Kehrwiederkirche .

The place has belonged to the municipality of Söhlde since March 1, 1974 , and the Kehrwiederkirche is depicted in its coat of arms.
