The Steinway Trail is a 14.3 kilometer long hiking trail in the northwest of the Harz Mountains in the Goslar district in Lower Saxony. It connects Wolfshagen in the Harz Mountains with Seesen .
history
The hiking trail was officially opened on May 9, 2015, after the establishment with information boards and signposts had been tackled from September 2014. The cultural-historical hiking trail is intended to commemorate the piano maker Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg , who was born in Wolfshagen in the Harz Mountains on February 22, 1797 , and who first worked as a master carpenter in Seesen from 1825 and focused on making instruments there from 1836. He emigrated to New York in the United States in 1850 and founded the piano manufacturing company Steinway & Sons in 1853 . William Steinway , a son of Heinrich Engelhard, was born Wilhelm Steinweg in Seesen in 1835 and also worked as a piano maker and businessman in the USA.
Description and integration into the local network of hiking trails
The Steinway Trail begins on the western outskirts of Wolfshagen in the Harz Mountains and initially runs along mountain meadows to the lookout point at the “Steile Wiese” pavilion, from which there is a view of the town in the Tölletal. The path then climbs and continues through the forest towards the Mandolinenhütte, from which a view of the southern part of the Innerste dam is possible. This is followed by a steep descent towards Innerstetal , where the lowest point of the hiking trail is and the river of the same name and state road 515 are crossed. The route then climbs steadily and reaches its highest point after about eleven kilometers behind the Schnapsplatz. Before that, the hiking trail meets the Harzer Försterstieg , with which it runs to the Tränkebachhütte, a large hiking hut of the Harz Club with a rest area. There the steep descent begins in the direction of Seesen over the source of the Tränkebach, the Tränkebachtal and the Schildau valley to the Steinway Park on the eastern outskirts, which brings you to your destination.
The official website gives the following route points for the trail:
At Jahnskamp - Wolfshagen festival hall - Burgweg - nature trail - “Steile Wiese” pavilion - Wittenberg pasture - Mandolin hut - Inlet of the Innerste dam - Small trough valley - Schnapsweg (Steigertal) - Schnapps place - Tränkebach hut - Trout climb - Seesen Steinway Park.
The Tränkebachhütte is included in the system of the Harz hiking pin as stamping point 104 and the mandolin hut as number 142 .
