Stepan Ivanovich Kubiw (born March 19, 1962 in Mschanez , Ternopil Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian economist and politician. From April 14, 2016 to August 29, 2019 he was First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine.

Life

Stepan Kubiw studied at the Faculty of Mathematics at Lviv University until 1984 and began a career as a Komsomol functionary. In 1994 he switched to the banking sector. He graduated from the National Polytechnic University of Lviv in 2002 . He has been a candidate in economics since 2006 and an associate professor since 2007 . Kubiw has written over 50 publications on business, marketing, banking and ecology.

From February 24, 2014 to June 19, 2014 Kubiv was Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine and from February 28, 2014 to June 23, 2014 he was a member of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine . He has been a member of the Verkhovna Rada since November 27, 2014 and the President's representative in parliament since January 15, 2015 .

Kubiw is a member of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc and after the cabinet reshuffle on April 14, 2016, he became the “First Vice-Prime Minister” and “Minister for Economic Development and Trade” of Ukraine in the Hroysman Cabinet .

Private

Kubiw is married and has one daughter.

Honors

Stepan Kubiw has received numerous orders and honors, including the Order of Merit of the Ukraine 3rd Class in February 2005 and the Gold Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland in 2006 .
