Volodymyr Matviyenko

Volodymyr Pawlowytsch Matvijenko (born January 5, 1938 in Bilka , Zhytomyr Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian economist , poet and former president of the Ukrainian National Bank .

Life

Volodymyr Matwijenko studied until 1959 at the Finance and Economic Institute in Kiev with a focus on "Finance and Credit" and in 1967 he received his doctorate at the Kiev State Economic University . Matviyenko began his professional career in 1959 as a loan officer in Donetsk Oblast . In April 1979 he became deputy head and in September 1982 head of the Ukrainian Republican Bank of the State Bank of the USSR (Representative Office of the Soviet Central Bank in Kiev). From September 1987, Matviyenko was chairman of the Ukrainian branch of the USSR Industrial and Investment Bank (Prominvestbank SSSR) and since February 1991 its chairman.

After Ukrainian independence, he became the first President of the National Bank of Ukraine on June 6, 1991 . On March 24, 1992, he was replaced by the later murdered Wadym Hetman at this post.

Matviyenko is the author of numerous papers and books on economics, banking and philosophy. The honorary professor at the International University of Vienna is a member of the Academy of Technical Sciences of Ukraine , the Ukrainian Academy of Economic Cybernetics , the Ukrainian Academy of Environmental Sciences , a member of the Academy of Economic Sciences and an honorary member of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture .

Volodymyr Matviyenko is married to Halyna Pylypiwna (* 1941). They have a daughter born in 1961 and a son born in 1973.
