Stephan Krumenauer (* around 1400 in Krummau ; † June 5, 1461 in Braunau am Inn ) was a German builder .

Stephan Krumenauer was a son of the Passau cathedral builder Hans Krumenauer . As a stonemason, he can be proven for the first time in 1429 at the building works of St. Stephan in Vienna . After the death of Hans von Burghausen in 1432, Krumenauer took over the management of two of his building projects: the new choir of the Salzburg parish church to Our Lady (since 1592 Franciscan church) and the choir and tower of the parish church of St. Jakob in Wasserburg am Inn . Krumenauer's main work is the new construction of the parish church of St. Stephan in Braunau am Inn , which began in 1439 . The master designed the church as a mighty, wide-piled wall-pillar relay hall with picturesque lighting and thus created one of the most important works of the Bavarian-Austrian late Gothic. Krumenauer was assigned the construction of the parish church St. Nikolaus and Stephanus in Eggenfelden a little earlier . Here he modified the three-aisled hall church that had already been started into a wall pillar system with insert chapels and thus formed the prototype for his Braunau building. Krumenauer's will, drawn up in 1459, shows that he was also involved in the construction of the St. Michael cemetery church in Altötting and the parish church of Erlach near Simbach am Inn. In addition, he was involved in the construction of the St. Andreas parish church in Kitzbühel, which was started in 1435 .

From 1452 Krumenauer is documented as a builder for the archbishop and the bishopric of Salzburg . In 1458 and 1459 he attends the Hüttentage in Strasbourg and Regensburg to consult with the masters and journeymen of the stonemasonry about a reform of the hut regulations. In Salzburg, however, he comes into conflict with local masons because he also works for the court of the Berchtesgaden prince-provost .

Stephan Krumenauer died on June 5, 1461 in Braunau am Inn. His grave slab is on the southern outer wall of the parish church.

The Stefan Krumenauer Realschule in Eggenfelden was named after him.
