Stephen Robson (born April 1, 1951 in Carlisle , United Kingdom ) is Bishop of Dunkeld .

education

Robson received his undergraduate degree in theology from St Andrew's College, Drygrange. He was ordained a priest on March 17, 1979 by the Archbishop of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh, Gordon Cardinal Gray . Later he combined the task of spiritual at the Scottish College in Rome with the continuation of his studies. He received a licentiate and doctorate in spiritual theology at the Gregorian , as well as a licentiate in canon law there . In 2004 his dissertation on the letters of St. Bernhard von Clairvaux was awarded the Premio Bellarmino as the best dissertation of the year. Objections that “dozens of passages from the dissertation” were apparently identical to the publications of other authors, but without being recognizable as quotations, were denied by the Gregoriana in early 2020.

Episcopate

On May 8, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the titular bishop of Tunnuna and Auxiliary Bishop of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh . The Archbishop of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh, Keith Patrick Cardinal O'Brien , donated him episcopal ordination on June 9 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the United Kingdom Apostolic Nuncio , Archbishop Antonio Mennini , and the Archbishop of Glasgow , Mario Joseph Conti . Robson and O'Brien had known each other for over 30 years; they were colleagues at St Mary's College Boys' College, Blairs. O'Brien resigned from his position as archbishop in 2013, a year after Robson's episcopal ordination, when it became known that he had abused seminarians for decades . Robson had been O'Brien's private secretary and then served as Chancellor of the Archdiocese.

On December 11, 2013, Pope Francis appointed Robson Bishop of Dunkeld. The inauguration took place on January 9 of the following year.
