The hermaphroditic flowers are radial symmetry and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The five sepals only briefly fused. There are five to ten basal glands on the calyx. The five white or purple petals are fused together like a saucer. The cylindrical corolla tube is widened at the point of attachment of the stamens and the throat is narrowed. The free crown lobes overlap and are turned to the right. The stamens start in the lower third of the corolla tube. The anthers are arrow-shaped. There is a disc of five free scales. The bicompartmental ovary contains numerous ovules . The relatively short stylus ends in a conical scar.
The seeds are elongated and have abundant endosperm . The cotyledons are linear, flat, the radicula is short.
