Steve Buckley (musician)

Steve Buckley (born January 6, 1959 in Orpington (Kent) ) is a British jazz musician ( alto and soprano saxophone , penny whistle , bass clarinet ).

Act

Buckley took clarinet lessons from the age of ten with Cyril Chapman (of the Royal Philharmonia Orchestra ) and later with Colin Courtney ( Royal College of Music ). Between 14 and 18 he was a member of the Bromley Symphony Orchestra . Under the influence of Charlie Parker , he also played the saxophone from the age of 16. He studied Earth Sciences at Leeds University before embarking on a career as a musician.

Buckley has been a key member of the Loose Tubes since 1985 ; then he was part of Human Chain . He also starred in Ashley Slater's Microgroove and Django Bates ' Delightful Precipice . He led groups with trumpeter Chris Batchelor and released three albums. In 2006 they received the BBC Jazz on 3 award for their work with Ten Tall Tales . Buckley continued to work with John Taylor , Julian Argüelles , Eddie Parker , Steve Noble , Billy Jenkins , Huw Warren , Christine Tobin , Colin Towns , Gene Calderazzo , Kit Downes , Mike Outram, Mark Lockheart, Joseph Jarman , Jonathon Joseph, and Leroy Jenkins . He has also worked with Brazilian and African musicians in groups such as Bosco D'Oliveras Grupo Folia , The Pan-African Orchestra , Kakatsitsi and Massukos . He taught at Truro College Jazz of the University of Plymouth .
