Life

McNair grew up in Mount Olive, Mississippi, with four brothers. He attended local high school and then decided to go to Alcorn State University in Lorman , Mississippi, where he played as a quarterback on the college football team. From 1995 McNair played in the National Football League for the Tennessee Titans , which were called Houston Oilers at that time. He became the highest-paid freshman in NFL history with a $ 28.4 million contract for seven years. McNair's greatest success was reaching Super Bowl XXXIV with the Tennessee Titans in 2000. The Titans were narrowly defeated by the St. Louis Rams . The game went down in history because the Titans and McNair were only one yard short of victory. Six seconds before the end of the game, the Titans had the ball on the opposing 15-yard line. Steve McNair matched Kevin Dyson , but this was stopped one yard before the end zone of the Rams by linebacker Mike Jones and the Rams won Super Bowl XXXIV with 23:16. In 2003, McNair and Peyton Manning received the NFL Most Valuable Player Award .

In 2006 he moved to the Baltimore Ravens , but then ended his career after the 2007 season after increasingly struggling with injury-related pain. After retiring from professional sports, McNair opened a restaurant near the University of Tennessee .

In June 1997 he married Mechelle and the marriage resulted in four sons.

His jersey number # 9 was withdrawn on September 15, 2019 in the game against the Indianapolis Colts during the halftime show and cannot be used by any other player.
