Steven Ruprecht (born June 24, 1987 in Berlin ) is a German football player . The defender was most recently under contract with Borussia Dortmund .
Career
Ruprecht began his career in 1993 in the youth department of 1. FC Union Berlin . He achieved his greatest junior success in 2005 when he won the championship of the U19 Regionalliga Nordost with the A youth team (alongside Florian Müller and Daniel Schulz, among others ) and was promoted to the A youth Bundesliga . That same year he signed his professional contract on June 28th, four days after his 18th birthday.
In his first season in the NOFV-Oberliga 2005/06 he played a total of 21 league games, scored two goals and rose at the end of the season with FC Union in the Regionalliga Nord . In the following season, due to numerous injuries, he only made 13 missions (without scoring), but was at least in the final of the Berlin State Cup , which was won 7-0. In the following season ( 2007/08 ) Ruprecht was a regular player and scored three goals in 26 league games. 1. FC Union Berlin finished the season in fourth place and qualified for the newly introduced third division . In the first season of the 3rd division Ruprecht played 13 league games and scored one goal. Nevertheless, he had to leave Union after a total of 15 years due to private differences during the winter break.
At the end of December he moved to Union league rivals VfR Aalen . There he fractured his toe in February 2009 and fell out for a long time. Only on the last match day, on May 23 against SpVgg Unterhaching , did he play a nine-minute short stint that was unable to prevent the 2-1 defeat, equivalent to relegation to the fourth-class Regionalliga Süd , but also no longer. In the summer break of 2009 Ruprecht left Aalen and joined the second division relegated FC Ingolstadt 04 . After a successful first half of the year (he played 15 games) he was injured again during the winter break (this time a metatarsal fracture). In April he made his comeback in the game against 1. FC Heidenheim . He scored the 4-3 winning goal in the 90th minute. After Ingolstadt was promoted back to the 2nd Bundesliga, Ruprecht was rarely used and therefore joined the league competitor Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in January 2011 , with whom he signed a contract until 2012. At RWO, however, Ruprecht only played one role in the second half of the season and was relegated to the third division, whereupon he moved to the regional league for Halleschen FC in the summer of 2011 . There he developed into a regular player again and rose to the 3rd league a year later with the Halle team. For the 2013/14 season he moved to Hansa Rostock . In 2015 his contract ended.
On November 12, 2015 Ruprecht was signed by the third division club SV Wehen Wiesbaden . He received a contract valid until June 30, 2016, which was automatically extended to June 30, 2017 with an option. In April 2017, his contract with SV Wehen Wiesbaden was extended for another season. In August 2018 he moved to league competitor SC Fortuna Köln , which he left after relegation at the end of the season.
At the end of the summer transfer period, Borussia Dortmund signed the defender and provided him with a contract valid until summer 2020. He only made nine appearances in the regional league team because he had the regular defenders Marco Rente and Maximilian Hippe in front of him and subsequently did not receive a contract extension. The season that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic ended with Ruprecht in 9th place with Borussia.
Private
In the 2008/09 season, Ruprecht's private life came into the public eye when he was released from training and competition operations on December 4, 2008 by 1. FC Union. The suspension was due to private differences with Ruprecht's team-mate Torsten Mattuschka . Ruprecht had taken Mattuschka's girlfriend away. In the meantime Ruprecht was engaged to her. In spring 2012 the couple separated.
