Stjepan Božić (born October 23, 1974 in Brežice ) is a former Croatian professional boxer . As an amateur he was, among other things, Vice-European Middleweight Champion 2000 .

Amateur career

Stjepan Božić was bronze medalist at the Junior World Championships in 1992 in Canada and silver medalist at the Junior European Championships in 1993 in Greece . He achieved both successes in the light middleweight division. He then boxed in the middleweight division. At the 1995 World Championships in Germany he was eliminated in the preliminary round against Albert Papilaya and at the 1997 World Championships in Hungary in the round of 16 against Jean-Paul Mendy .

In 1998 he won silver at the military world championships in Germany and in 1999 bronze at the military world games in Croatia.

In 2000 he won the Chemistry Cup in Germany and qualified for the 2000 European Championships in Finland . There he came, among other things with a win against Carl Froch , to the final, where he was defeated by Zsolt Erdei .

Professional career

Stjepan Božić made his professional debut on September 16, 2000 in France . In June 2005 he defeated Nader Hamdan (balance: 38-3) in the fight for the WBF world championship in super middleweight and defended the title in December 2005 against Julio Vásquez (65-8).

In 2006 he lost in Germany to the two European champions David Gogiya (12-1) and Vitaliy Tsypko (18-1). In August 2007 he won against Lolenga Mock (27-10) and became WBA Intercontinental Super Middleweight Champion . He defended the title against Djamel Selini (18-7) and Roman Aramyan (25-7) before losing the title to Dimitri Sartison (25-1) in November 2009 . In 2011 he lost in Germany to Arthur Abraham (31-2) and Henry Weber (14-0).

In June 2013 he lost in the fight for the WBC Silver super middleweight title against James DeGale (15-1) and lost in the fight for the WBC CISBB super middleweight title against Fyodor Chudinov (9-0) in March 2014 . In December 2014 he lost to Tyron Zeuge (15-0) in the fight for the IBF International super middleweight title.
