Stockau is a district of the market town of Weidenberg in the Upper Franconian district of Bayreuth .

location

The place is located on the Mühlbach flowing to the Ölschnitz between 376 and 411  m above sea level. NHN .

history

The first written mention of the place as "Stohka" took place on May 26th, 1129. Even then Stockau had its own chapel, which was later extended to a church.

With the Principality of Bayreuth , which was administered by Prussia from 1791 , Stockau came under French rule in autumn 1806 and was sold to the Kingdom of Bavaria in June 1810 .

On December 1, 1863, the Weiden – Bayreuth railway line was opened, which now divides Stockau into the old village center and a new development area to the west of the railway. In 1874 a train station was built between Stockau and nearby Glotzdorf , which was renamed from Glotzdorf to Stockau in 1936 after it was expanded to become a train station . In 1875 the volunteer fire brigade was founded.

Due to the territorial reform , the place, which was originally a place of the Lessau municipality, was added to the Weidenberg market in 1972.

The parish village of Stockau is connected to rail traffic through the train station in the center of the village via the Weiden – Bayreuth railway line . The double-track crossing station is served by the VGN lines R34 and R43, which means that there is an hourly service in both directions.

Stockau is located on the road from Neunkirchen am Main to Lessau, via the - and the branching road to Letten - you can reach the nearby federal road 22 in the directions of Bayreuth and Weiden, as well as the state road 2463 to Weidenberg.

Public facilities

Fire protection in the district is guaranteed by the Stockau volunteer fire brigade, which was founded in 1875. In addition, there is a parish hall of the Protestant parish in the village.
