history

Glotzdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1398. At this time Glotzdorf was subordinate to the rule of Bayreuth. With the Principality of Bayreuth , which was administered by Prussia from 1791 , Glotzdorf initially came under French rule in autumn 1806 and was sold to the Kingdom of Bavaria in June 1810 .

In 1879 a road was laid below Glotzdorf, and in 1911 a water pipe was installed. Among the 182 inhabitants counted on January 1, 1953, 74 were refugees , about half of whom came from Lower Silesia . From 1955 to 1959 five houses were built by them, creating the first settlement area . Thereafter, a building area was designated in the west of the village, the extent of which is three times the size of the historic village.

Until the regional reform , the place belonged to the municipality of Lehen , on May 1, 1978 it was incorporated into Weidenberg. A land consolidation procedure was carried out for the municipality of Lehen from 1960 to 1971 .

Agilis railcar passes the old station building

On December 1, 1863, the Weiden – Bayreuth railway line was opened, but it wasn't until 1874 that Glotzdorf received a station. In 1936 this was expanded into a train station , which is located between Glotzdorf and the neighboring town of Stockau and was named after it. The station building dates from 1883. In the meantime, the loading track has been dismantled and the platforms have been moved to Stockau.

Glotzdorf is on the road from Neunkirchen am Main to Stockau, via which you can reach the nearby federal road 22 in the directions of Bayreuth and Weiden as well as the state road 2463 to Weidenberg. The road leads through the old town center to the hamlet of Hartmannsreuth on the Pensen.
