The Strelasund was a German seaside resort ship that was used in the liner service between Stralsund and Hiddensee .
history
The steamer ran in 1883 in Szczecin Maschinenbau-Anstalt and shipyard-Actien Society in Grabow as Peene launched . Until 1906 she was at the Szczecin shipping company Wilhelm Lüdke & Co. as a cargo steamer in use. Then the boatman Gustav Bentzien from Rügen bought them . He wanted to secure a larger share of the excursion traffic between Stralsund, Rügen and Hiddensee with the ship renamed Strelasund . As early as 1907 he sold the Strelasund to his Stralsund competitor August Prätz.
By 1923, the shipping company Praetz put the now remodeled and advertised as Salondampfer Strelasund together with the Hiddensee a scheduled and excursion service. It ran on weekdays from Stralsund via Neuendorf and Schaprode to Kloster . On Sundays she also drove directly from Stralsund to Kloster. On occasion, day trips were made to Wiek (Rügen) , Breege and Zingst , on the Baltic Sea and to the Danish island of Møn .
The Strelasund was occasionally used as a tug for salvaging ships. On February 4, 1923, the Strelasund suffered machine damage while towing an old minesweeper from Stralsund to Kiel during a storm. The mine sweeper sank and the Strelasund ran aground near Neuhaus near Dierhagen . After the ship was made afloat again by the salvage steamers Hans and Rügen , it was towed to Rostock and later scrapped.
technology
The steamship was 27.08 meters long and 4.50 meters wide. As Peene it was measured with 59 GRT , after the rebuilding in 1906 as Strelasund with 58.61 GRT. A compound steam engine with an output of 80 hp brought the ship to a speed of 6.5 knots with one screw . The crew consisted of four men. About 110 passengers could be carried.
