The Strohauser Sieltief is a watercourse in the Wesermarsch district in Lower Saxony . It is a depression that drains the predominantly boggy area.

history

The first written mention of the Siel was probably 1417, it is uncertain. In 1658 it existed with certainty, was renewed several times and finally expanded into a stone sewer in 1773. In the 19th century, a harbor with a quay developed in the outer bay . Grain, peat, bricks and other general cargo were handled here. The Strohauser Sieltief can already be found on the Oldenburg Vogteikarte from 1790. In the 1970s, the Strohauser Sieltief was placed between Schwei and Rodenkirchen on the former route of the abandoned railway line Varel – Rodenkirchen .

course

The approximately ten kilometer long watercourse flows in the municipality of Stadland . It arises in a sewer , west near welding area, from the Southshore Schweier pump pit, the Match digging trench and other trenches. The Strohauser Sieltief flows in an easterly direction south past Schwei and later crosses Rodenkirchen at the Strohausen district, which gives it its name . Here it flows into the Schweiburg in front of the Strohauser Plate river island, which in turn joins the Weser as a left tributary .
