Strzeszyce (formerly Trzeszycy , German Wachendorf ) is a village with a Schulzenamt of the municipality Laskowa in the powiat Limanowski of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship , Poland .

geography

The place is located in the Beskids Island on the Łososina River . The neighboring towns are Ujanowice in the southeast, Żmiąca in the south, Jaworzna in the west, Krosna in the north, and Sechna in the east.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1262 as Cracisze . Later it belonged to the Poor Clares in Stary Sącz (Alt Sandez) and was mentioned as Stressici or Trzeszyce . The patronymic name is derived from the personal name * Trzesz (for example mentioned in 1310 as Trsezka ).

In the 16th century a large Vorwerk of the Poor Clares was built there.

After the First Partition of Poland, Strzeszyce came to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1783, in the course of the Josephine colonization, German colonists of various denominations were settled: 8 Lutheran families, 2 Reformed, 1 Catholic. The colony was named Wachendorf , a free translation of strzec ( wachen ) with the suffix -dorf. In 1869 the Lutheran branch parish Strzeszyce- Żbikowice from Nowy Sącz (New Sandez) was established with the seat in the Protestant elementary school in Strzeszyce. By the end of the 19th century, the colonists' descendants were Polonized. In 1900 the village had 290 inhabitants in 43 houses, all of them Polish-speaking, 270 Roman Catholic, 20 of other faiths (predominantly Protestant).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Strzeszyce came to Poland. This was interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II , during which it was part of the Krakow district in the Generalgouvernement .

From 1975 to 1998 Strzeszyce was part of the Nowy Sącz Voivodeship .
