The university entrance exam (SBP) is in Austria the professional limited approval to a study .
Function of the university entrance examination
In contrast to the general higher education entrance qualification , which is obtained with the school leaving examination (Matura) , and which is assigned to the school sector, there is the possibility of completing a course with which one can study very specific subjects. This gives you a restricted right to study at universities , colleges , technical colleges (university SBP) , or universities of teacher education (school SBP) .
Requirements and procedure
These courses are completed directly at the university, and since October 1, 2010 autonomy has also been with the universities. They decide freely on the form of the university entrance qualification examination and handle it differently (examinations and examination requirements by ordinance of the rectorate, recognition of master craftsman examination , qualification examination ) Therefore, with such an examination, a change of study is only possible to a very limited extent.
The conditions must be discussed individually in advance in a conversation with the responsible persons at the university (institute director, rectorate). General requirements are:
- Decision for one of the 16 specified study groups
- Proof of professional or non-professional training for the desired course
- Austrian citizenship (or equality under study law: citizenship of an EEA member state, only for the university SBP)
- Minimum age 22 years or 20 years with at least four years of professional training
The exam consists of five individual exams , similar to the Matura , with compulsory and elective examinations; the subject matter is based on the 12th / 13th School level (connection class of a BHMS). The examination is taken before a committee at the university.
The material can be worked out:
- in self-study
- in distance learning at the university, if the institution offers it
- in special preparatory courses / courses at the university, especially at technical colleges and academies
- at various community colleges , the Vocational Training Institute , in some Matura schools
or by crediting other courses of study, then under certain circumstances no examination preparation is necessary
With the exam you will receive a university entrance qualification certificate . In general, there is no direct professional qualification , i.e. the SBP does not provide any direct career advancement opportunities.
