The Subaru Ascent is a sport utility vehicle from the Japanese automaker Subaru that has been sold in North America since 2018.
history
Subaru showed a first glimpse of a full-size SUV above the Forester at the LA Auto Show in November 2016 with the Viziv-7 Concept . With the Subaru Ascent SUV Concept , another concept vehicle was presented at the New York International Auto Show in April 2017 . Subaru presented the production vehicle at the LA Auto Show in November 2017. This has been sold in North America since mid-2018. The Ascent should not be offered in other markets. The Ascent is built in Lafayette (Indiana) . Subaru already had a full-size SUV on offer with the Tribeca between 2005 and 2014 .
Since welding robots temporarily skipped welding spots and welds during production between July 16 and 25, 2018 due to a software error, some of the 293 Ascent built during this period have to be scrapped.
technology
The Ascent builds on the Subaru Global Platform , which was introduced in 2016 with the fifth generation of the Impreza . It has all-wheel drive and is powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter boxer engine with 194 kW (264 hp) and a maximum torque of 375 Nm.
The SUV is available with either seven or eight seats. Either two single seats or a three-seater bench are available for the second row of seats.
