Subaru presented a first preview of the second generation of the XV at the 86th Geneva Motor Show in March 2016 with the Subaru XV Concept . The production version also debuted a year later in Geneva. It is the first vehicle in Europe based on the new Subaru Global Platform , on which all Subaru models will be based in the future. In January 2018, Subaru introduced the new XV to the European market. The second generation has been sold in North America since 2017. For the local market, a variant with a plug-in hybrid drive was also presented at the LA Auto Show in November 2018 . Shortly thereafter, this variant came on the market in the United States. The XV Advance was presented in Japan in September 2018 . Its hybrid drive is also used in the fifth generation of the Forester .
Drive and chassis
The two boxer gasoline engines existed in a similar form in the previous model, Subaru developed them further and reduced their weight. A diesel engine is no longer offered, nor is a manual transmission. Instead there is only the standard continuously variable transmission called “Lineartronic” with Subaru's “symmetrical” all-wheel drive , supplemented by a special electronic off-road traction program called “X-Mode”. The front wheels are suspended from MacPherson struts and wishbones , the rear wheels from double wishbones . The service brake has disc brakes on all wheels, the steering works with pinion and rack.
The XV e-Boxer offered in Japan and Central Europe is powered by a two-liter gasoline engine with 110 kW (150 PS) and a 12 kW (16 PS) electric motor.
In the plug-in hybrid offered in the USA, Subaru combines a two-liter gasoline engine with 102 kW (139 hp) with two electric motors . The system output of the Crosstrek Hybrid is given as 110 kW (150 PS). A 2.5-liter gasoline engine with 136 kW (185 PS) will also be available there from mid-2020.
