Susanne Gunnarsson
Linnea Susanne Gunnarsson , until 1988 Linnea Susanne Wiberg , (born September 8, 1963 in Örebro ) is a former Swedish canoeist . In 1996 she won an Olympic gold medal.
Athletic career
At the 1981 World Championships , the boat from the GDR won the two-person kayak ahead of Agneta Andersson and Susanne Wiberg. In a four-person kayak , the boat from the GDR won ahead of the boat from the Soviet Union, followed by Karin Olsson , Agneta Andersson, Susanne Wiberg and Eva Karlsson the bronze medal. In 1983 in Tampere Andersson and Wiberg won bronze in two behind the boats from the GDR and Hungary. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , due to the Olympic boycott of the Eastern Bloc countries, with the exception of Romania, none of the world champions of the previous year were at the start. The Romanians won in a four-kayak in front of the Swedish boat with Anna Olsson , Agneta Andersson, Eva Karlsson and Susanne Wiberg.
Four years later at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , Anna Olsson, Agneta Andersson, Susanne Wiberg and Liselotte Ohlsson came in sixth. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , Susanne Gunnarsson, as she was now called after her marriage, finished ninth in a single kayak . In two, she won the silver medal behind the German boat with Agneta Andersson.
Ten years after her last world championship medal, Susanne Gunnarsson won the single competition at the 1993 World Championships in Copenhagen on the 5000 meter course, which was only held from 1989 to 1993, ahead of Hungarian Rita Kőbán and German Birgit Fischer . In 1995 at the World Championships in Duisburg , competitions over 200 meters and over 500 meters were on the program. Susanne Gunnarsson won the two-man over 200 meters together with Susanne Rosenqvist silver behind the Canadians. In the two-man over 500 meters, the Germans won ahead of the Poles, Gunnarsson and Rosenqvist received the bronze medal. Gunnarsson also won bronze in the single over 500 meters.
At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , only the three competitions over 500 meters were on the program for the shallow water canoeists. In the one, Susanne Gunnarsson took fifth place, almost two seconds behind Olympic champion Rita Kőbán. In a two-person kayak, Agneta Andersson and Susanne Gunnarsson won ahead of the Germans and Australians. For their Olympic victory, Andersson and Gunnarsson received the Svenska Dagbladet gold medal in 1996 . Susanne Gunnarsson won her last international medals at the 1998 World Championships . The Swedish four with Ingela Ericsson , Maria Haglund , Susanne Gunnarsson and Anna Karlsson received the silver medal behind the Hungarians on the 200-meter course. Gunnarsson and Karlsson won the bronze medal on the 1000-meter course.
