Suworowskaja ( Russian Суворовская ) is a Staniza in the Stavropol region ( Russia ) with 17,585 inhabitants (14 October 2010).

geography

Stanitsa is located on the northern edge of the Greater Caucasus , a good 100 kilometers as the crow flies southeast of the regional administration center of Stavropol on the Kuma River . The foothills of the Caucasus rise around the Stanitsa at an altitude of about 600  m .

Suvorovskaya belongs to the Predgorny Rajon and is located about 25 kilometers northwest of its administrative center, the Stanitsa Jessentukskaya . In addition to Stanitsa, the rural settlement of Suvorovskaya also includes the villages Svoboda (10 km southeast, 677 inhabitants) and Sukhoosjorny (10 km west, 86 inhabitants) (2009).

history

Stanitsa was founded in 1825 by the Cossacks of the Chopjor regiment under the name Karantinnaja (from Russian karantin for quarantine , since a quarantine camp was set up there near the southern border of the Russian Empire at that time ). In 1835 (according to other sources as early as 1831) it was given its current name in honor of Generalissimo Alexander Suvorov (1730–1800). Until the 1920s, Stanitsa belonged to the Batalpaschinsk department of Kuban Oblast .

From 1924 to 1928 and from 1934 to 1957 it was the administrative center of a Rajon named after it .

Economy and Infrastructure

The economic basis of the Staniza is the cultivation of grain, fruit and vegetables as well as businesses in the food industry on its basis.

The A156 trunk road runs through Suvorovskaya and leads from Lermontov near Pyatigorsk , where there is a connection to the M29 main road , to the capital of the neighboring Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia, Cherkessk . The nearest railway stations are in a good 20 kilometers southeast situated Yessentuki east and 40 kilometers in Mineralnye Vody .
