The Sveti Stefan II was a ferry from the Monaco- based shipping company Montenegro Lines , which entered service in 1973 as Prince Hamlet . The ship stayed in service until May 2017 and was then scrapped in Aliağa, Turkey .

history

The Prinz Hamlet was laid on November 15, 1972 under the construction number 679 at Nobiskrug in Rendsburg and was launched on May 26, 1973. After being taken over by the Prinzenlinie on November 8, 1973, the ship began the ferry service from Hamburg to Harwich on November 12 . It was the third ship of this name on this line. The first Prince Hamlet had been on this route from 1969 and before that between Bremerhaven and Harwich and then sailed the Mediterranean under the name Roussillon , the second Prince Hamlet was sold after the acquisition of the third and renamed Agadir .

After fourteen years of service on the Hamburg-Harwich route, the Prinz Hamlet was transferred to the Danish DFDS under the changed name Prins Hamlet in May 1987 and was henceforth used between Esbjerg and Newcastle upon Tyne . After just over a year, the ship moved to Stena Line as Stena Baltica in October 1988 , but was sold to Polferries under the name Nieborow only one month later .

For the next fourteen years, the Nieborow mostly stayed on the route from Ystad to Świnoujście before it was sold as Sveti Stefan II to Monaco-based Montenegro Lines in November 2002 . In January 2003 the ship started the ferry service between Bar and Bari . It also started at Ancona in the summer months .

In May 2017 the Sveti Stefan II was retired after a total of almost 44 years of service and sold for scrapping in Aliağa, Turkey, where it arrived on May 17, 2017.
