history

The company was founded in 1947 by Max Swoboda as "Textil GmbH". In the beginning, fabrics, handkerchiefs and doormats were made. In 1961 the company entered the automotive supplier industry with the production of windshield wiper motors . In 1963 the name was changed to "Swoboda oHG" and the manufacture and assembly of turned parts and camping items. In the same year, the first deals were made with Robert Bosch GmbH ( contract production of suppressors , later of temperature sensors, winding elements and cable harnesses ). In 1968 Swoboda expanded its production range with the introduction of injection molding technology.

From 1977 the company traded as Gebr. Swoboda GmbH . In 1989 Kurt Swoboda and Ingo Granel took over the management. The Czech subsidiary was founded in 1994 and the US subsidiary in 1997. In the following years, the company expanded both the production facility in Wiggensbach and the two plants in Jihlava . In 1995 the first complex, interlinked automation system was put into operation. Sensor housings for airbag control units have been manufactured fully automatically since 2001 .

In spring 2016 Swoboda opened its new plant in Fürth . It should "become the nucleus in toolmaking for the worldwide Swoboda Group", said partner Matthias Groth at the laying of the foundation stone in November 2015.

Hartmann-exact KG in Schorndorf- Schornbach was a 100% subsidiary of Swoboda for many years, which with 200 employees and 80 million euros contributed to the group's total result of around 400 million euros. Since the merger on July 1, 2018, Swoboda and Hartmann-exact KG have been operating under the new brand name "Swoboda Technologies".

In spring 2018 Swoboda founded a joint venture with the Franz Morat Group, a manufacturer of gear wheels, under the name "Morat Swoboda Motion". The company aims to offer new drive technologies for e-mobility . On September 16, 2018, the foundation stone was laid for a new plant in Nowa Ruda , Poland . In October 2018, the company announced that it had recently acquired the Karlsruhe-based companies Ingenieur-Systemgruppe Zahn GmbH (ISZ) and Peter Systemtechnik GmbH (PST), which are active in electronics development.
