Sylt is the third studio album by the Hamburg band Kettcar . It was released on April 18, 2008 on the Grand Hotel van Cleef label.

History / meaning

In the winter of 2007/08, Kettcar recorded their third studio album. Some of the recorded songs could already be heard live at concerts in 2007. The advance single Graceland hit stores on March 28th and entered the German singles charts. Sylt was released on April 18th and reached number 5 in the German album charts, the same place as its predecessor Von Spatzen und Tauben, Dächern undehand .

style

As with the two previous albums, the music on the album oscillates between indie rock tracks influenced by punk and songs in the style of singer-songwriters . There is a differentiation in the auditory impression through the three different producers who have given the titles they produce their own personal stamp. In addition to Swen Meyer, who already produced the previous Kettcar albums, Moses Schneider (including Beatsteaks , Tocotronic ) and Tobias Siebert ( Klez.e ) provided the multi-faceted sound.

content

In contrast to the previous album Von Spatzen und Tauben, Dächern und Hands , the lyrics are again increasingly dedicated to the criticism of social conditions. "I convey stories that are often about the fact that losers are also taken into account, that social conditions are embedded in stories where you can see that everything is not going right." Reports main songwriter Marcus Wiebusch in a ZDF report on the release of the album. The “neoliberal impositions” (Marcus Wiebusch) in the times of Hartz IV are particularly described. This becomes particularly clear in the title Insignificant, limited, out . The texts by Marcus Wiebusch and Reimer Bustorff give fewer instructions for a “better life”. Rather, they are precise observations of the reality of life as experienced by the copywriters.

Cover

The album cover, in turquoise and brown and red tones, shows the painting Hochbahn by the Leipzig painter David Schnell .
