The synagogue stood in the inhibitor Strand district United Hemmersdorf in Schoppachstraße. It was built around 1892 and demolished in 1939/40.
history
A Jewish prayer room was first mentioned in 1850. In 1863 a synagogue was mentioned for the first time. In addition to the members of the Jewish community of Hemmersdorf, this was also used by the Jewish residents of Niedaltdorf and Biringen . In 1892 the synagogue had become too small and was in a poor structural condition. This led to the decision to build a new synagogue. It was a two-story building that also contained apartments. The synagogue was given up before the referendum in 1935 and the associated annexation of the Saar region to the German Reich . Since it was in the Red Zone , it was demolished along with other buildings in the course of the evacuation in 1939/40 .
Jewish community of Hemmersdorf
The Jewish residents of Niedaltdorf and Biringen also belonged to the Jewish community of Hemmersdorf. Jewish residents in Hemmersdorf are documented for the first time in the middle of the 18th century. After the seizure of power of Hitler in 1933, many members of the Jewish community emigrated so that the synagogue was abandoned about 1935th The last Jewish residents were deported between 1940 and 1942.
