Rehlingen-Siersburg is a municipality in the Saarlouis ( Saarland ) district with over 14,000 inhabitants in ten districts. It was created in 1974 in the course of the regional and administrative reform from the previously independent municipality of Rehlingen and the nine municipalities of the district of Siersburg .

location
Rehlingen is on the Saar , Siersburg is on the Nied , the other districts are partly on the Gau ( Saargau ), partly in the Nied valley, a tributary of the Saar on the left. In the west Rehlingen-Siersburg borders on France , in the north on the Merzig-Wadern district , in the east on the city of Dillingen / Saar , in the south on the municipality of Wallerfangen .

history
On January 1, 1974, the communities of Biringen, Eimersdorf, Fremersdorf, Fürweiler, Gerlfangen, Hemmersdorf, Niedaltdorf, Oberesch, Rehlingen and Siersburg were merged into a new community. This was first given the name Rehlingen. It was later renamed Rehlingen-Siersburg.
In May 2014 Johannes Guittienne was posthumously made the first honorary citizen of Rehlingen-Siersburg.

On September 23, 2008, the municipality received the title “ Place of Diversity ” awarded by the federal government .

In the districts of Siersburg , Hemmersdorf and Niedaltdorf there are stops of the Niedtalbahn . A stop on the Saar route is named after the district of Fremersdorf , but it is located in the area of the neighboring town of Merzig and is connected to Fremersdorf by a pedestrian bridge over the Saar.
