Bausendorf synagogue

The synagogue in Bausendorf was built in the middle of the 19th century on the site of today's Koblenzer Straße between houses 8 and 9. The synagogue was demolished in the 1960s.

synagogue

Until the synagogue was built, the parishioners visited the synagogue in Lösnich . In the middle of the 19th century, the synagogue was built in today's Koblenzer Straße between house no.8 and no.9. It was an eaves plastered building with arched windows. The end of the choir room on the east side was in three parts. Its front side had a round window in the upper third. There are no reports on whether and if to what extent the synagogue was desecrated during the November pogroms in 1938 . On December 18, 1939, the building became the property of the Reich Administration of Jews. After completion of the restitution process , the building was transferred to the Jewish community of Trier. In 1961, the latter sold the property with the synagogue on condition that the synagogue be demolished.

Jewish community of Bausendorf

Presumably, Jews lived in the Bausendorf area as early as the 18th century. In the course of the 19th century the number of members of the Jewish community, which also included the Jewish residents of Kinderbeuern and Hontheim , increased and reached its highest level in 1895. The community had a religious school. However, a teacher was not employed. Lessons were given by teachers from neighboring communities. The deceased were buried in the Jewish cemetery in Bausendorf. At the beginning of the 20th century, the number of parishioners decreased. From 1933, after the seizure of power of Adolf Hitler , the Jewish inhabitants were increasingly disenfranchised. In addition, there were repeated anti-Jewish actions. As a result, many Jewish families left the community and emigrated. It is not known when the last parishioners left Bausendorf or were deported.
