action

Professor Reich, lecturer at the Humboldt University in Berlin , plans to take six of his fourth-semester prehistory students on an archaeological excursion to the Baltic Sea island of Nordström. There they are for three weeks excavations at a Thingstätte the Germans make, while also as hunter-gatherer diet and give up all the luxuries such as mobile phones. Since participation is supposed to be an award for good performance and only a few places are allocated, Reich personally selects the students. In addition to the nerd Friedemann, who is only called lollipop, the students Anna, Claudia, Mony, Julia and Elke are allowed to participate.

The chosen ones are very happy, only Elke is disturbed because she was followed by a stranger from the S-Bahn to her apartment the previous evening. Student Lukas is disappointed because only his girlfriend Julia was chosen, but he is not allowed to join. He's supposed to take care of Mony's cat. When Mony sees Reich with his wife and two children in front of the faculty building, she looks jealously at the seemingly happy family. Elke notices Mony's feelings for Reich, but explains to her that she has no chance with someone like Reich.

Late in the evening Elke is killed with a stone sculpture in her hallway.

After Elke does not appear at the meeting point the next morning, the ship with Reich and the remaining five students leaves for Nordström. The excursion is accompanied by the geologist Dr. Thea Berger, who explained the dangers on the island during the crossing and warns of the moor inside the island, which is only safely accessible on the marked paths. She is also the only one who has a mobile phone with her. When they go ashore in the rubber dinghy, Friedemann injured his leg. In a clearing in the interior of the island, the group set up camp with tents and sleeping bags.

During the night Berger sees someone with a torch walking past her tent and going into the forest. She believes it is Reich that she has an intimate relationship with and follows him into the woods. When she leaves the path in the dark, she sinks into the moor. The stranger had previously changed the marking of the safe path in the moor. The next day the group notices that Berger is missing and that their tent is completely empty. Since the rubber dinghy with which the group went ashore has also disappeared from the beach, Reich and the students believe that Berger left the island on their own.

Meanwhile, Lukas accidentally finds photos of her in Mony's apartment that show that she has a relationship with the Reich. He also discovers a thesis by Mony, which was rated significantly worse than his, whereupon he breaks into Reich's office and finds out that Anna, Claudia and Elke also did not have good grades and that Reich, with the exception of Friedemann, did not follow the participants Performance, but rather by appearance. When he learns from Reich's secretary that Elke was slain the night before leaving with a stone sculpture that looks like sculptures from Reich's office, he thinks the professor is the murderer and, worried about Julia, sets off for Nordström .

On the island, Claudia and Mony clash during an excavation at the Thingstätte when Claudia tries to sneak in on Reich. Claudia then sexually molested Anna while she was on the beach, after which she returned to the camp. Shortly afterwards Claudia is killed with an arrow on the beach. At the same time, the group in the camp is making soup from mushrooms that Reich and Mony had collected. After Julia eats some mushrooms, she has a high fever and cramps. Friedemann's wound has now become infected and causes severe pain in the entire leg. When Claudia did not appear in the camp late in the evening, Reich initially went on a search without success. It wasn't until the following day that Friedemann, who was cooling his aching leg in the water, discovered the corpse floating in the bank area. Since Anna is supposedly the only one who can shoot with a bow and arrow, the arrow belongs to her and she also has a motive after the sexual harassment, she is suspected, but vehemently protests her innocence.

At night the group finds out that Mony has secretly put aside the rucksack with Berger's supplies and used it alone. A heated argument ensues between Anna and Mony and Anna hysterically leaves the camp despite the efforts of Reich and Friedemann to settle the dispute.

The next morning Lukas arrives on the island and tries to secretly escape from the camp with Julia, but is discovered by Reich. Friedemann points out to Reich, Lukas and Julia that Anna has still not returned to the camp. Reich and the students go in search of her and discover Anna, strangled with a guitar string, dead on the beach.

The group returns to the camp, where Lukas throws Reich's guitar at the feet of the group, one of which is missing a string. Lukas confronts Reich with his suspicion that he not only selected the students by appearance, but also murdered Elke. Friedemann comes to the conclusion that he was only taken to the island as a fool by Reich. Then there is a fight between Reich, Lukas and Friedemann, in the course of which Reich is almost stabbed by Lukas before Julia pulls him away at the last moment and flees with him from the camp. On the beach, they notice that the rubber dinghy with which Lukas reached the island was destroyed. Then they both hide from the other on the beach.

Friedemann, who stayed behind in the camp and is only looked after by Mony, is secretly given pills in the tea at night, whereupon he becomes delusional and runs through the forest in panic. On a slope he finally recognizes the murderer and is thrown to his death by him. When Julia and Lukas discover the dead Friedemann, Lukas goes into the camp armed with his knife to confront Reich. But he only finds him dead at the campfire with a knife in his chest. Since Mony is the only one left in the camp, it is now clear to Lukas that she must be the murderer. When he tries to attack her, she flees from him in a panic until she falls to her death on a cliff.

For the last two survivors, Lukas and Julia, everything now seems to be fine again when a ship approaches the island. In the last shot, however, you can see that Julia is wearing the necklace of Frau Berger who has sunk in the moor.
