The gymnastics and sports club Rudow 1888 is one of the largest sports clubs in Berlin with 4,700 members . One of the main focuses of the association is youth work. The club has the following departments: football , basketball , volleyball , athletics , gymnastics , badminton , tennis , table tennis , karate , handball , badminton, judo , bowling and cheerleading .

history

The TSV Rudow was founded on September 22, 1888 by 21 members as a men's gymnastics club (MTV) Jahn-Rudow. The first chairman was Carl Zahn. In 1903 it was renamed TV Jahn Rudow. In 1924 the club moved into what is now the Stubenrauchstrasse sports field. In 1941 Alfred Knorr and Werner Ziehlke won the German championship as representatives of the judo department of TV Jahn Rudow, which had opened seven years earlier. After the Second World War , the club had to continue under the name Sportgruppe (SG) Rudow due to Allied resolutions. On April 1, 1949, the company was re-established under the name TSV Rudow 1888.

In 1951 Werner Ziehlke became a member of TSV Rudow again in 1888 as German judo champion. In 1980 Roswitha Lehmann won the German bowling championship for the club, and the volleyball women made it into the 2nd Bundesliga for the first time. In 1982 the volleyball women of TSV Rudow made it to the 1st Bundesliga, where they played until the team changed clubs in 1989.

Soccer

The football department of the Rudow 1888 gymnastics and sports club was created in 1935 when the footballers of the Rudow workers 'sports club joined in 1912, after the workers' sports clubs had been banned in 1933 as part of the Gleichschaltung. The greatest success in football was achieved in 1986 with promotion to the third-class amateur league in Berlin. At the point game against Hertha BSC , a record was set with 5,000 spectators. The first men's team was relegated from the Verbandsliga Berlin to the regional league on matchday 29 of the 2006/07 season. It was not until 2010 that they returned to this league. In the youth sector, the club is one of the leading clubs in Berlin. The most famous former player is Christian Ziege .

Stadion

TSV Rudow 1888 Berlin has played on the Stubenrauchstrasse sports field since 1924. Back then you still played on gravel, today on artificial turf. There is a 400 meter long running track around the playing field. A shot put facility and a long jump facility are also located on the sports facility. There are around 500 seats in the stadium. The newly built club casino has been on the Stubenrauchstrasse sports field since 2004.

Judo

With 287 active members aged 6 to 72, the judo department is one of the five judo clubs in Berlin with the largest number of members. The TSV Rudow team has been fighting in the Regionalliga Nord-Ost since 2005.

badminton

The badminton department has around 40 members and takes part in the competition in Berlin with two adult teams.

Table tennis

The table tennis department was founded in 1967. The men's team played in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 1980s and missed promotion to the 1st Bundesliga in 1987. Well-known players were Walter Gründahl , the Dane Claus Pedersen and the two-time Berlin champion Christian Thomas. In 1989 the team was withdrawn for financial reasons.

volleyball

The volleyball department, founded in 1969, made it into the 2nd Bundesliga with women in 1980 and into the 1st Bundesliga in 1982 , making it one of the top German teams for a long time. For the 1989/90 season, the Bundesliga team separated from TSV Rudow and founded the CJD Berlin . In 1989, a rebuilding began in the youth sector. In 1998 the women became Berlin champions and were promoted to the Regionalliga Nordost. In April 2007, TSV Rudow played in the promotion round to the women's second division, but just missed it as third in the table. In 2009, however, it worked with promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga . After the 2014/15 season, the club withdrew from the 2nd Bundesliga mainly for financial reasons.

athletics

The athletics department has around 250 members (as of December 31, 2018), the majority of whom are students (U8-U18). Every year, several Berlin and Berlin-Brandenburg championship titles can be achieved in almost all age groups and disciplines. The focus in the adult and masters area has been all-around for years.

The successes at the German team championships in which almost all department members could be mobilized are particularly important for the Rudow athletes: 1984: 11th place with 180 participants in 15 teams and 202,459 points. 1987: nationwide 1st place with 262,437 points in 18 teams, 1990: again 1st place with 256,735 points in 19 teams (with 130 participants) from 569 rated clubs.

The competition clothing consists of a red jersey and black pants. The Britz-Süd stadium is the training and competition venue.

Cheerleading

The cheerleading department was founded in December 2006 and has about 80 members. The Little Twisters compete in the cheerleading category , the teams Dance Deluxe, Dance Delight and Dance Delicious in cheerdance .

In its young history, the department has already celebrated some successes. So the Little Twisters 2008 Berlin champions and German runners-up. Dance Deluxe became Berlin champions in both 2007 and 2008 and came in second at the German championships. The greatest successes so far have been the Dance Delight junior team: in 2007 and 2008, the young dancers won the Berlin and German championships, and in 2008 and 2009 first place in the ELITE Cheerleading Championship . The dance teams have also celebrated successes internationally. In 2008, Dance Delight and Dance Deluxe took part in the European Cheerleading Championship in Ljubljana ( Slovenia ) and achieved 7th and 8th place respectively. At the European Cheerleading Championship 2009 in Nyköping ( Sweden ) Dance Delight came 6th, Dance Deluxe 7th place. These are the best placements of German dance teams at international championships so far.
